2013 - plans

Well a new year is upon us and we are getting ready to make some new plans for the future.
mine this year involve more gaming and promoting the games I play and the  club we run.
as well as helping run the club events this year I am planing 4 events myself. this may change to 3 if I drop the 40k event or may even try  a Small point fantasy event...
Now I also plan to put together a couple of themed tables of terrain. We have a few Maliflux players there and with the club putting on a Maliflux events later this year I have put my hand up to make a couple of tables for them to use. so I hope this year to produce at least one table a quarter. two for maliflux as they are 3x3 two for fantasy. My plan is to have a new table for two of the fantasy event that will be table one each with a theme.
so this will give you as more terrain planing and making to follow this year as well as the events I hope to complete.

Warhammer scouting party mini event

The other event I hope to run is a small mini tournament. at my club and on the road.

Warhammer Scouting party

Back when 8th edition WHFB came out we were running rules learning with 500pt to 1000pt games.

So inspired by the Bad Dice 500 point Tour,

I have decided to get back to Small point games. With most Tournaments in WA being 2400pt I am going to quarter that and have a 600pt one night tournament.

So our planned schedule is:
3 games @ 600 points out of the book WHFB

19:00 - 19:30 Registration & set-up
19:30 - 20:30 Game 1
20:30 - 21:30 Game 2
21:30 - 22:30 Game 3
22:30 - 23:00 Awards & packing up.
23:00 - 00:00 Settle affairs and fill in the book of grudges

we plan just 12 players that is 6, 4x4 tables.

Two Prizes,

Top hobby and top General.

It will be win draw loss system for scoring and each round rolling for the game type, this is to include mystic terrain.

now depending on how I can market this I will take it on the road to other clubs and hope to build a bit of terrain for bigger games out of this event.

the Future is bright

Well a lot has happened. I have received the first of my Mantic kickstarter I now have a new Ork and High elves under constuction I also have a new guard Army under construction using mantic Corp minis and forge world. It is now only a little bit more to build forgeworld army in Australia then a GW army so way not.

I have began to work on a Narrative campaign at the club. this will be one first 40k narrative campaigns I have run. This is why I have a new army on the go.

As we prepare for the narrative campaign

One of the big parts of the narrative campaign it is about the story of your army and its units, the battles they fight and the experience they gain.

So to get started we will need you to prepare a 700 pt army and give a write up of the army and the units. You will need to paint all your minis during the campaign and the sooner the better. If you use unpainted minis or no story for the unit you will have to suffer a penalty.

The other change is that I need you to create a Character.

What you need to do is create a hero (or Villain) who will lead their army.

Each player should come up with a name for their glorious leader and jot down a history for him.

So get to work, you campaign begins soon.

Some basic rules.

This narrative campaign will also have an escalation feel about it.

Rd 1- 700pt                 4x4

Rd 2 – 1050pt             4x4     

Rd 3 – 1300pt             6x4

Rd 4 – 1600pt             6x4

Rd 5 – 2000pt             6x4

Anything is allowed. This includes forge world. You have to use the updated rules for 6^th with them. It is theme and story that we are looking for.

This includes Non GW models and armies.

From round three you will be allowed to take allies- need to fit army theme.

You will be able to play as many games each round as you like against anybody in the Narrative campaign as all these results will count to the overall narrative.

We want painted armies so here are the rules if your unit is not all three coats and based min. they count as conscripts and are -2 on any leadership teats, and do not benefit from any rules that change it.

If your unit is painted and it gets into combat with unpainted unit gets hatred, this is for the first and second round of combat.

You will need to keep a record sheet of how well each of you units do as they earn experience that will give them bonuses as the campaign continues. This includes you

The group will be divided into sub sets this will depend on number and what forces we have being built. They will be around Imperil, chaos and alien threat. This may change as we have players sign up.

You can even play team mates, the future is a dark place and we still have internal out breaks. (There will be a consequence)

You get to spend 120pt for your armies HQ selection.

This will be a free addition not part of your 700pt army. This model has to be built and painted and a profile written to be used.

You also get to pick a warlord trait for him to start with pick from command or person trait list only.

This will be your armies’ leader and you will be the warlord.

If you take a psyker at any point the first psyker that arrives to work with your force.

We be able to choose their frist psychic power for him. If they are able to pick more then one then all others will be picked using the rules for psychic powers.

You will have to remain with the discipline you choose the first time for the remainder of the campaign (you train to do one discipline well)

If you psyker survives the game then he will be able to keep the power he has or choice to change to a new one from the same discipline.

If you die and each time you die you then get to follow the rules for picking you psychic powers as per rule book, you are to use the same discipline as you chose in the beginning.

Each game we play will require you to role for war zone traits as per BRB40k page 368.

I have the fortess and with the old 5th ed, there where really no rules so I did some work to make it use able on the table. I turned the larg model into smaller ones by building panels of the parts. this now means I have 2 bunkers and a tower for the table.

Well one of the best parts to playing WHFB 8th ed is the terrain rules thay are part of the game. now that 40k 6th is out it is great to see that this is a feture on the the game here. the game is about narrative, the store and fun. this meens that again I wil be able to work on terrain projects and terrain pieces that are part of the game. This means now there is a place for more narrative events. can not wait to use my Forge world toys.

Kings Of War -

well
 one of the events I will be running next year will be a Kings of War tournament.
It will be a one day event and will be on the weekend of the Clash of Kings .
no prize money just pride.
so clear the day
9th Febuary for the event. 1800 points, four rounds and 16 places.

let us make that one of the biggest gamming weekend of the year. I would like to see any one in areas that can not attend the Clash of Kings, run one the their area. event a one day event even. let the world play Kings of War on 9th and 10th of Febuary

Future of blog

well I now have over ten tables worth of terrain for Fantasy gamming. So at this point I have enought to run some small events over the next 12 months this is the direction I am going.  Not only will I be running club events and events out of the club I will also look at indi events over the next 12 months.Fire water portal will also start to show case terrain I have from other systems. The blog will move to and event blog it will now showcase terrain I build and own and the events that I run. I have found it a get way to ensure I get terrain completed is to have a dead line and a place to show case the work so at this point I am going to set up a time line of events and dates to do them and create some posts about getting them ready and how they go. this should keep me on track. I hope that any of my followers are not put out by the charge of direction of the blog but with doing this I will have the chance to keep my blog freash with new content, this is the direction a lot of my gamming is going I am running events more than playing in them so why not show it off.

off topic–mantic on kickstarter

 

Well this is not a terrain post but one I really want to share with all.

I do love WHFB 8th it is the best version that fits my play style. full of random terrain effects, Random magic and the game is never over until you remove every model from the table. Well I live in Australia and due to the guide lines of pricing and restrictive sales practices I have had to limit my purchases. So now a lot of my rank and file models are from the second hand market or independent supplies. I still buy my large models and monsters from Games workshop I still love the models but just can not justify the price any more for rank and file.

now that being said I would like to say Mantic Miniatures are on Kickstarter so I would say go and have a look. this is where the rank and file for my new VC army are coming from and I would say to all have a look and it is worth backing them.

Delay in posting–tables

Well I have been busy not in the hobby .I have been working on the boards to use. After all the terrain building I needed to work on some surfaces to game on.

so I now have a table with green matting, and on the other side black for a chaos lands or to use for my BFG games I need to work on the star system yet.

I have a city fight board for my 40K games on the other side Green matting, that way it can have WHFB on the other side

I have Also have a water board / ice board this is also coated in glass coat to give it a water feel and on the other side a brown table for a desert terrain.

 

so six table top designs over the three tables.

All the boards are flat design so I can store them all the extra features will will come from the terrain I have built.

Three more tables

Well I now have three more tables for my collection.
that now takes it to 11 playable tables for me to use, I still have the underground table to finish and write some rules for after I get throught the hobby event I am running in May that will be finished  so I can run my next hobby event. I aslo am writing some rules for a hobby base campainge. more to come later.

well the daughter had to buy some plasic flower for her theater production and only needed a couple of the flowers leaving me with the rest. she said here dad you can use these on your little men. well 4hours later I have now made three sets of trees. here are the two green based ones.

well had a day off and decided to do some hobby, I managed to finish the rock out crops for my collection as I wanted them for us it the blood in the sands event I have in May.

I was worried I would not have enough terrain in my collection  for the event but I now have enough to fill 10 tables of fully painted terrain. If I expect the players to have a painted army then I need to have fully painted terrain it is only fare to all.

Paper buildings part two

well I have finished a coupl more buildings now.

I have been casting some plaster rock molds. these are to be used as scatter terrain hills and rocks.

I have completed two sets so far. I have to make two others for the club as they asked if I could do theme some while I am casting some for me. I hope to make on set for a khemri table and just a standard rocks. the club has yet to decide what they need.
Because the are plaster I have put them on bases for protection.

Paper buildings

well I have found some of the old paper buildings. I have taken some coreflute and reinforced the building to make them look better. this now gives me a little village.  for a new table. I have also found some PDFs for the buildings so I will have to get them colour copied and put on some backing to make more buildings. It is a bit retro as when GW started they only had paper terrain so I will put together a paper terrain for the older gamers to enjoy the past.

well I have been working on the hanging tree now need to paint some skellies for it to finish it off.

well the days are getting closer and the tables are starting to take place.

I have now set up 8 tables of terrain from my collection. they will all have

5 to 8 pieces of terrain.

With the local scene Having a hole in the tournament cal. I am going to run a small Tournament to make sure that the build up of players to eigth are still on a high. This is a simple no real Comp event and a straight up battle lines fight. This is not the most hobby related event but I am not ready for the hobby event yet so in order to keep those players arround and happy I have put together this quick little event.
